Dear APA Members:

The APA will hold its annual election of officers on July 15th - July 21st via electronic ballot for which the APA has contracted with an independent firm. If you have not registered your most current email address with the APA National Office, please do so now so that you can receive notification of the polls opening.

There are 7 offices to be decided. Nine candidates have submitted candidate packets for those offices. Members will also be able to submit write-in votes for all offices. Candidate statements covering the aspirants' qualifications and goals will appear in the July - August APA Magazine as well as in the Members section of the APA website.

Below are the offices and names of those who have declared their candidacies.

President Elect
Chuck Slupski
(No Opposition)

VP Government
Robert Peters
(No Opposition)

VP Law Enforcement
Walt Goodson
Delmer Gross

VP Private
George Baranowski
(No Opposition)

Director 1 (one-year this cycle)
James McCloughan
(No Opposition)

Director 2
William Fleisher
Raymond Nelson

Director 4
Michael Gougler
(No Opposition)

I will be coordinating the elections this year. If you have any questions about this process, or need contact information for any or all of the candidates, please write to me at APAkrapohl@gmail.com.

Wow! 5 out of 7 positions on the board are running without opposition. That means the membership is really satisfied with the organization or very apathetic about the process in general.

Unfortunately, a chronic problem. I think Jimmy Padgett represented more than a minority opinion when he said that APA and APATHY have more in common than just a few letters. You know more than most of the hundreds of hours it takes to do a good job in office, and the small number of members who are willing to do it.

I do not want to detract from the good members who have stepped forward and are campaigning for office, though. We owe them our respect for what they are trying to do, be they few or many.

APA members: The Members section of the APA website now has the campaign statements of the members vying for office. The statements tell a little bit about the candidates, and what they want to accomplish if elected. Please take few minutes to read them to help you decide which of the candidates best represents your vision of what the Association should be. Many of the statements also include contact information if you want to bring an issue forward to the candidate.

Reminder: Elections will start at one minute after midnight this Sunday morning. For those of you who have registered your email address with the APA National Office by last Friday, you will be receiving an email notification in a few days along with a passcode so you can access the balloting website. All other voting members will have to contact the APA National Office to receive your passcode (800-272-8037). The userid will be your last name. You will be able to vote only one time, even those of you from Chicago.

The e-ballot will include the candidate statement for each aspirant, and most sent a photo to be posted, too. This information is already on the APA website in the Members section for those who want a preview.

Good luck to all of the candidates.

Final call for votes. Polls close tomorrow night (Saturday) at midnight. If you know you are an eligible voter, but did not get an email giving you directions and info for voting, contact the APA National Office or send me an email at editor@polygraph.org. We will give you what you need. Check your spam folder first for the email sent on the 14th, as this has been a problem in some cases.

Winners will be announced next week on the APA website: http://polygraph.org/
